Joker - Work In Progress 4 (mixed media on 300gsm paper)

Added some sumi ink into the watercolour mix so it was real dark. Highlights were achieved with acrylic white or rubbing back into the paper when wet.

Joker - Work In Progress 3 (mixed media on 300gsm paper)

added a warmer fleshy colour and some texture with acrylic, still getting darker....

Joker - Work In Progress 2 (mixed media on 300gsm paper)

Getting darker and adding more detail.
This is based on Heath Ledger's Joker from The Dark Knight (for those that didn't work that out already). Great movie.

Life painting (oil on cardboard)

Think this was a 40 minute pose. Man, he looks so sad...I can remember him being quite nice and talkative.
Painting this quickly in oils is fun...you dont overthink things...

Ditko Spidey (oil & bitumen on 300gsm paper)

Posted this a while back but these are better photos. The web strands were created by cutting back into the paint/paper after it was semi dry, kinda like inkers do with razor blades when they want a more jagged white line (explosions, mist, water effects). Joe Kubert perfected this technique (I reckon) yonks ago. Reading his biography at the moment, written by Bill Schelly, great stuff.
